Tour Details for the Ammersee Tour 2008

This tour is not described in our brochure
Map of the Ammersee Tour
Day 1. Arrive in the medieval town of Landsberg am Lech.

Day 2. A gentle start if you want one: cycle via wayside ponds and through forest to Leeder in the Fuchstal (about 10 miles.) If you want something a little more demanding, follow the whole of cycle route 7 (about 22 miles).

Day 3. First cycle to the pilgrimage church of Vilgertshofen, a rococo jewel. Then to Issing and an open-air swimming pool at Thaining. Continue via the Windachsee lake to the Ammersee lake, then on to finish at Wörthsee (about 28 miles).

Day 4. The official plan is to cycle south past the Wellinger See lake to Herrsching on the shore of the Ammersee. Leave the bikes here and walk up through a wooded gorge to Andechs monastery - as well known for its brewery as for its architecture and its music. Lunch at the monastery before walking back to collect your bikes and take the ship across the lake to Diessen (about 16 miles). If you are feeling energetic, you can cycle round the end of the lake instead.

Day 5. First cycle to Wessobrunn to visit the monastery there, then return to Diessen. Then ride along the western shore of the Ammersee via Holzhausen, Utting and the Alte Vila beer gardens to end once again at Wörthsee (about 29 miles). Alternatively, just take your time cycling along the lake shore past numerous bathing places.

Day 6. Cycle via Stegen and Eching to St. Ottilien monastery (Asian and African museum), then to Kaltenberg Castle and back to the valley of the River Lech and Landsberg (about 28 miles).
