Cycling in the Mosel Valley from Trier to Cochem 2008

This tour is not described in our brochure
Map of the Mosel Cycle Tour This short tour follows the Mosel from the Roman city of Trier through Neumagen- Dhron and Enkirch to the pretty small town of Cochem in three stages.

With the whole holiday taking place close to the UK, this makes the perfect short break or add-on to another trip.
Day 1 - Sunday or Monday. Arrive in the Roman city of Trier.

Day 2 - Monday or Tuesday. The first day takes you through old Roman settlements and pretty villages whose names are familiar from wine labels, following the sharp curves of the river. As the valley narrows and twists even further, you come to Neumagen-Dhron, the oldest wine growing village on the river, also a Roman settlement (about 28 miles).

Day 3 - Tuesday or Wednesday. Today leads you through some of the best known wine towns in the world - Piesport and Bernkastel to name but two! The marketplace in Bernkastel in particular is well worth a pause. Continue through smaller villages to Enkirch, known as the pearl of the Mosel, for its half timbered buildings (about 32 miles).
Enkirch Trier Cathedral
Day 4 - Wednesday or Thursday. The final stage of the tour is perhaps the most dramatic. The river makes sweeping 180° curves at Zell and Bremm, while the heights above the valley are crowned with castles such as Metternich, above the village of Beilstein. Finally three more dramatic curves bring you to the end of your tour in Cochem, which is dominated by the fine castle of Reichsburg (about 33 miles).
