Cycling along the Elbe Valley
The Elbe (Labe in Czech) is one of Central and Northern Europe's great Rivers. From its source in the Krkonoše or Giant Mountains in northern Bohemia, close to the Polish Border, it runs through the Czech Republic and Germany to enter the North Sea north of Hamburg.

Important cities such as including Dresden, Magdeburg and Hamburg, as well as smaller, but equally renowned towns such as Meissen (porcelain), Torgau (meeting point of the Soviet and US armies at the end of World War II), Wittenberg (Martin Luther) and Dessau (home of the Bauhaus movement) line the banks of the river.

Away from the towns, the river is known for its flora and fauna; much of the land bordering the river is protected nature reserves.

For the cyclist, however, the Elbe Valley Cycle Path starts in Prague, on the River Vltava which joins the Labe at Mĕlník, a days ride from Prague.

We currently offer two tours in the Elbe Valley,
Cycling from Prague to Dresden and
Cycling from Bad Schandau to Dessau
Please ask us if you want to cycle any other particular stretch of the Elbe Valley - we can usually arrange it for you.

Cycling from Prague to Dresden
This tour follows the rivers connecting two of Europe's most culturally important cities. Prague, on the Vltava, has become justifiably well known in the years since the Velvet Revolution and we strongly recommend that you book an extra day or two in Prague so that you can explore the city properly before you start your cycle tour.
Old Town Square, Prague
Prague Old Town Square
The route follows the Vltava to its confluence with the Labe, then follows the Labe to the German border (from where on it is known as the Elbe) to Dresden, a city of art and culture like no other in Germany. We also strongly recommend that you book an extra day or two in Dresden before returning home. Visit the amazing art galleries or the opera - we can book opera tickets as part of your package if you want.
Elbe Sandstone Rocks
    Saxon & Bohemian Switzerland
Koenigstein Castle
Königstein Castle
The countryside includes vineyards, castles and palaces, strange rock formations and gentle water meadows with fascinating wildlife. This is a unique tour of great interest.

Cycling from Bad Schandau to Dessau
The dramatic final day of the Prague to Dresden tour is identical with the first day of this tour.
Torgau
Torgau on the Elbe
Dresden is the only major city on this tour, but history is all around you as you cycle through Meissen, Torgau and Wittenberg over a period of seven days. This is also an easier tour than Prague to Dresden - there is hardly any climbing, distances are less than 30 miles per day and the condition of the cycle path itself is better - most of it is excellent.
